Ross Paton from market-changing recruitment platform, Nomad Now, speaks about some of the challenges rolling out a tech platform that could revolutionise the recruitment industry in South Africa.
‘The concept is obvious. We order accommodation through Airbnb, transport through Uber, and food and groceries through UberEATS. It’s time to add the same technology to the recruitment processes and related costs and for a transition!’ says Ross regarding the drivers for the launch of the tech recruitment platform in 2018.
The reception to the new tool was overwhelmingly positive from (now) over 58 000 registered Flexi & Permanent professionals. However, naturally there have been hurdles too: cumbersome procurement precedents (‘how do we sign up on a ‘platform’’?) or non-tech-literate HR (‘a new platform!?’). Notoriously slow payments processes on the employer side also made paying professionals on time challenging.
Why should Employers / Hirers bother with this new talent hiring method?
Simply, huge cost and time savings. Solving two of the biggest pain points in talent resourcing. Engage and transacting (i.e.: order or hire) both Flexi and Permanent talent online. Take full control of hiring processes. Avoid painful recruitment agency fees (15% - 30%!) or paying labour broker mark-ups. Rather, engage with talent directly, pay 75% less than traditional recruitment fees (and only once the jobs have been completed).
‘This sounds like a no-brainer transition to Hiring Managers and those directly involved in an organisation’s hiring team, but executives can be out of touch with in-house recruitment costs and often reluctant to try new channels. Try to get your head around sourcing and transacting with talent online!’ says Ross.
Nomad Now’s terms reflect the latest international platform precedent.
Consider this response from an HR business partner from one of the Big Four Banks in South Africa: “This platform is definitely the future of recruitment.” The future? The international precedents have been around for years. We are the cheaper, South African version.
How does Nomad Now work?
Yes, Nomad Now is a disruptive innovation. It’s a bit unsettling for HR. But it enables massive time and cost savings and, as predicted, will become second nature to hiring teams.
Flexi placements 4%. Permanent placements 5%. It’s a no-brainer!
Implementation of innovative and effective technology needs the ‘push down’ from C-Suite for adoption of this ‘tech’. Adopting such a platform is often a decision bigger than HR - needing Exec endorsement.
